Enhancing Fertility Through Kinesiology: A Holistic Approach

Learn about natural methods to enhance fertility and reproductive health.

More people than ever are struggling to conceive. It is well documented that sperm counts have declined rapidly in the last 50-years (estimates state by 50%, particularly in Western countries), with many theories as to why. Women’s reproductive health has also been impacted, with high rates of endometriosis, PCOS and other issues contributing. The reasons posited vary, from environmental pollutants and poor diets, to drinking, smoking and drug use (including prescribed medications). Whatever the causes, it’s clear that modern lifestyles are a factor.

Environmental pollutants, such as plastics and pesticides, contain xeno-oestrogens that we are exposed to daily. In addition, many people are overfed yet under-nourished, due to processed food, soil depletion and intensive farming. It all sounds pretty bleak. However, there are natural methods to enhance fertility - and kinesiology is an effective way to support your reproductive health and improve some of the conditions mentioned.

Kinesiology works across four realms, the physical, mental (emotional), chemical and energetic, leading to health breakthroughs. The physical can be finding the foods that aren’t supporting your body (often hybridized wheat, refined sugar and table salt) and replacing them with foods that do. As well as testing for supplements that would boost your fertility. This could be additional zinc, evening primrose oil, vitamin E or powerful herbal blends and other nutrients that can support the endocrine system.

Prolonged stress puts a huge strain on the body too, so we work to reduce this. If you are stressed, your sympathetic nervous system is primed for fight/flight/freeze, in order to confront, run or hide from a threat. So your body is biologically not going to be geared towards making a baby. We use calming techniques on various neuro-vascular points, EFT (tapping) - a proven method for stress or anxiety reduction and Bach flower remedies to harmonise emotional imbalances. Once you are operating from the parasympathetic ‘rest and digest’ / ‘feed and breed’ part of the nervous system, your body is out of survival mode and can get on with the business of reproduction.

The chemical element means looking at the toxic load in your life. This may mean making your home healthier and other lifestyle tweaks, such as swapping lycra leggings, polyester pyjamas and other synthetic fabrics for natural fibres, such as linen or organic cotton. Most synthetic materials are made from petro-chemicals, which contain xeno-oestrogens. If you’re sweating in the gym in lycra, or sleeping in nylon or polyester, your skin will be absorbing these synthetic substances. Likewise, heating ready-meals in plastic containers in the microwave is another way these synthetic chemicals enter the body, where they can interfere with the endocrine system and affect your fertility adversely. (The xeno-oestrogens attach to the oestrogen receptor sites in your body, mimicking the hormones your body produces, in a harmful way). Conversely, many herbs and plants contain phyto-oestrogens or phyto-sterols, which can be beneficial for the human body.

Where the energy system is concerned, we massage particular neuro-lyphatic points to stimulate lymph flow. Lymph doesn’t have a pump and should ideally be the consistency of runny yogurt. However, without adequate hydration and movement, it can become more like cottage cheese, so it can’t flow (or efficiently feed the cells and clean the tissues) as it should. The lymphatic system also sits within the fascia, a highly sophisticated body-wide network of connective tissue and sensory receptors that send millions of signals (such as whether you’re hot or cold, hungry or thirsty, need to pee or poo and more). It is now understood that acupuncture points correspond to areas in the fascia where nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue bundles pass through. The piezo-electricity that fascia can generate also corresponds with the concept of chi in Traditional Chinese Medicine. In kinesiology, we use acupressure techniques to balance the energy system.

Working across all four of these realms supports your body in a holistic way. Once it has the tools it needs, the human body is more than capable of doing what it was designed to do.
