Scared of flying? Don’t let fear spoil an overseas trip

Kinesiology can be an effective way to deal with phobias, anxiety and stress

Many people have an (understandable) fear of flying. However, for a minority, this fear can be debilitating – either preventing them from getting on an aeroplane altogether – or causing extreme stress and anxiety at the start and end of a trip. Holidays and weekend mini-breaks overseas are supposed to be relaxing and fun, so this can mar the experience for the fearful person–and their travelling companions.

Kinesiology can be an effective way to treat phobias and fears. One technique we use, is EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique, also known as Tapping), which originated in Kinesiology and is now used as a standalone treatment for numerous issues from anxiety and depression to food cravings, fears and phobias. This technique involves tapping on a sequence of acupressure points, with statements that acknowledge, validate and then clear the fear, or fears, from the subconcious mind. When used in a kinesiology treatment, EFT, is further supported with Bach flower remedies, and nutritional support, if required. The relevant flower remedies or nutritional supplements are identified through gentle muscle testing.

If you’re wondering how nutritional supplements could be beneficial for phobias. There are a number of reasons. Firstly, the B-complex vitamins - and other nutrients, such as magnesium, support the nervous system. Secondly, the gut microbiome has a huge impact on how we feel, via the gut-brain axis. Medical science acknowledges that a deficiency of particular gut microbes can result in depression, anxiety and other ‘mental health’ issues – further emphasising that physical and mental health are intertwined - you don’t have one without the other. In a kinesiology treatment, when using EFT, we can also check to see if you required any nutritional or pre/probiotic support.

In addition to the support for mind and body mentioned, Bach flower remedies work on an energetic level to rebalance ‘negative’ emotions. Essences, such as Mimulus, Rock Rose and Aspen can be helpful for fears. However, the kinesiologist would find the particular remedy or remedies that your body responds too and give you some drops during the treatment, and some to take away afterwards.

If you have a fear of flying (or exams, or anything else), there is no need to have to push through, suffer in silence, or let it hold you back from enjoying life. Through its multi-dimensional techniques and tools, Kinesiology can support you to let go of fears, phobias and any underlying anxieties. Find out more, or book an appointment.
